In operation since the end of the 1950s, Balaídos is Vigo's largest industrial area and the city's economic driving force. Covering a surface area of a million square metres, it specialises in the automobile sector and is home to companies such as PSA Peugeot Citroën, which occupies some 635,000 m2, and GKN Driveline Vigo. Around it lies the Automobile Cluster of Galicia which employs over 40,000 people.
Balaídos also offers 38,000 m2 of storage space for car manufacturer suppliers.
