A Laxe Shopping Centre, which opened to the public last February 2008, is in an excellent location, right in the marine port of Vigo, near the pedestrian area of Montero Ríos Street, The Royal Yacht Club and the Cruise Liner Dock.
The building was designed by architect Francisco Sáenz de Oiza and occupies an area of 11,762 m2. The building has 45 premises distributed on three floors and a parking space for 484 vehicles.
Three big companies are the driving force behind the centre. Mediamarkt, a multinational leader in sound and image, electronics and electrical appliances has premises with an area of 4,000 m2. Metropolitan opens a gym-spa in premises of 2,000 m2 and Adolfo Domínguez has a large store of 1,685 m2 with all their fashion collections.
The arrival of these three important companies and the prime situation has attracted others, and so the remaining 42 small and medium-sized premises have quickly become occupied.
Due to is prime location in the city centre next to the marina and its fine architecture, A Laxe is also an urban reference that connects the Old Quarter with the Port through a pedestrian gangway. The cafés on the balconies overlooking the port are open to all, and are a meeting point for local people from Vigo and a reception area for visitors.
This is partly due to the new pedestrian gangway that is used by tourists from the cruise ships that dock at the port to walk up this way to the Collegiate and A Pedra square and people who are looking for a new way to go down between Puerta del Sol and the port. The cafés on the balconies overlooking the port are open to all, and will soon become a meeting point both for local people from Vigo and to receive visitors from elsewhere.
